Most startups rush into building software before validating demand, wasting time, money, and resources. Before hiring developers or investing in tech, you need a simple, actionable plan to understand where you are, where you want to go, and whether your idea is truly worth building.
Step 1: Start with a 1-Page Plan
You don’t need a 60-page document. Focus on clarity: current state, 1-year targets, and your vision. This gives you direction and helps prioritize decisions.
Step 2: Validate the Problem Before Building
Real market research goes beyond meetings with friendly venues. You need to understand the pain point: is it a “painkiller” people are willing to pay for, or just a “vitamin” that’s nice-to-have? Only when people are willing to pay at scale do you have a business worth building.
Step 3: Test Your Idea Strategically
Before building my own venture, Coding Chamber, I validated demand. I ran a webinar for university students, sent surveys, and confirmed interest in a Java course. I built the course with feedback from early users and only then started selling. This approach ensured I invested in a product the market actually wanted.
By validating first and investing later, you avoid wasting tens (or hundreds) of thousands on unproven ideas.
